How to Check Passport Status

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Apply for a passport and want to check the status of your passport application? Well, it can be done in just 3 easy steps. Of course, you have to wait up to 7 days after you submit the application form. This allows sufficient time for it to be input into the system and appear in the status checker. Read on to get step-by-step instructions.

Visit the Online Passport Application Status Checker

You can check the status of your passport application online. There is no need to call nor email the National Passport Information Center. The Department of State's Passport Services is the official issuing agency of passport for American citizens. The passport application status checker is hosted on their website.

Read Privacy Notices and Disclaimers

Before accessing the status checker, your are prompted to read the Privacy and Computer Fraud and Abuse Acts Notices and Disclaimers. These documents together are composed of several thousand words about copyright issues, use of the U.S. Department of State seal and information about the website as well as "policies and procedures for ensuring and maximizing the quality, objectivity, utility, and integrity of information disseminated by the Department". It is doubtful whether or not anyone actually reads this content. Decide for yourself if you will take the time to read it or not, then check the box and click the button to proceed.

Enter Personal Data

You need to type in your last name including suffixes such as II, III, Jr., Sr., and others. Also, you should type your name with a hyphen if that is the legal spelling which you included on your application form. Finally, enter your date of birth and the last four digits of your Social Security number.

When There Are Problems with Your Application Status

What can you do if your application is not in the system? First of all, make sure that 7 days have passed since you mailed your packet. If adequate time has gone by then begin your search by verifying the delivery of your application if you used a traceable method. Once you have done that, contact the National Passport Information Center and speak with a representative.

What can be done if the passport status shows that the application is being processed but you do not think it will be completed in time for your trip? First, contact the NPIC and see if they can provide you with any further information concerning the status of your process. If not, you may have no alternative than to visit a regional passport agency. Since your application is in the system, they can usually process it as quickly as the same day. Of course, you will have to pay the expedited service fee in order to get your passport more quickly.

By following the 3 simple steps listed above, you can quickly check the status of your passport application and find out if it will be delivered to you prior to your departure date. If not, you know what you can do to get the process expedited.

Top 5 Tips To Help You on Your Driving Lessons

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

When you first start your driving lessons it can be fun but also very scary at the same time. All new drivers will be excited for their first experience behind the wheel; however there are a number of precautions that you will need to take.

1. When you begin driving your instructor will give you the opportunity to take safety courses there are a number of them available and you should aim to take as many as possible. The benefits associated with taking such tests are that once you have your license insurance companies will give you a discount because you are seen as less of a risk.

2. Before you move the car the very first thing that you should do is to adjust the mirrors so that you can easily see what is to the left, right and the back of you. Your next step will be to adjust the seats so that you can reach the pedals comfortably without stretching or so that your knees are not cramped upwards. Also be sure to adjust the head rest so that it is resting on your head and not on your neck. Finally adjust the steering wheel so that it is at a comfortable level.

3. Pay close attention to traffic laws that you have learned in the classroom and studied from the theory test book. Anytime you arrive at a stop sign you must come to a complete stop; when you are approaching a yellow light you should slow down and not speed up in attempt to jump the red light. Obey any signs and pay attention to all speed limits. By following these basic traffic laws you are avoiding receiving tickets, having your insurance raised and most importantly getting into an accident.

4. You should get as much practice as you possibly can outside of lesson times. Make sure that whoever you choose to practice with is a qualified driver with a full license.

5. Take on board any criticism that you are given as it will only aid in enhancing your skills on the road if you make the necessary changes. You should also practice in all weather situations so that you are not taken by surprise when you are on your own and there is a sudden change in the weather.

If you take on board all of these instructions you should have very successful driving lessons.

Retrospectively Travelling to Disneyland Paris

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Disneyland Paris, previously dubbed Euro Disney, has been a mecca for many European families since it opened in the mid 90's. Disney had a well established reputation in Florida and California so it was with great anticipation that the new park should be announced to open in France. Albeit the park suffered some setbacks for the first few years, Disneyland Paris has now secured its future as one of the best tourist destinations in Europe.

The opening of the park was more exciting for us Brits, as Disney epitomised the Western culture by which we had a closer relationship with than our European neighbours. With the completion of the Channel Tunnel, getting to France was easier than ever, but that's not to say we weren't already very efficient at crossing that moat. With ferries and the golden age of the hovercraft, families could visit France for a long weekend and return the next day with a boot full of wine and cheese.

Now, I've crossed the Channel many times, growing up alongside my brother, set on another family trip around the French countryside. We travelled by various methods each time either by ferry, air or train, but the one method of travel which stuck in my mind the most was the hovercraft. Seeing that awesome feat of engineering speed across the water and mount the concrete right in front of the car was something to behold. The sound of the propellers and the size of the vessel were huge and I wish it were still around today.

In a way I felt like the hovercraft was superseded by the Catamaran. At the time this vessel was a futuristic, tri-bowed ferry which seemed like a sleeker and quieted alternative to the hovercraft, almost more civilised in its character. The SeaCat was a popular company to travel with and the awe struck me as a child just as the hovercraft did.

The procedure for boarding was the same; park up and wait to drive onto the vessel. The only thing which was different was how the catamaran opened its hull seamlessly from the front as if it was its own party piece. The ride was a lot more comfortable as well with an open deck, an arcade and a café to keep us entertained.

This was all part of the fun in getting to France and for a few times it was how we got to visit Disneyland Paris. Of course you can still go for this option with the countless ferries that cross the Channel every day and you will be able to relax on board before disembarking for the drive to the park. However, an element of that childlike awe has vanished with the disappearance of the hovercraft and, to a lesser extent, the catamaran.

Now the most popular method of transport is by train through the tunnel. As with all old leisurely vehicle's, new faster and sleeker innovations make them obsolete as people prefer to save time and money rather than treating the journey as part of the trip. I travelled on the tunnel as part of a trip with the school to Disneyland Paris and although there is not much to see and do, this is obscured by the fact that it is a very quick way to get there, practically dropping you off at the parks entrance.

In a way, we could look at the Channel Tunnel as being the saviour of Disneyland Paris whilst it rode those first few turbulent years after it opened. Would the huge number of visitors be willing to travel there if there wasn't this sort of transport? The Channel Tunnel was a monumental feat of engineering when it was conceived, but now it is almost a way of life, with people practically commuting to France for their short stays.

The US Passport Renewal Fee

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

The US passport renewal fee was increased last year to $110. This was done after a thorough study of the process and costs involved. Note, this refers only to the application fee. It is only one you are required to pay when applying for a passport renewal. However, there are some optional fees and additional expenses that you may incur when getting your passport renewed. These will be discussed briefly.

Optional Passport Fees

Overnight Delivery - The U.S. Department of State offers overnight delivery of renewed passports for those who wish to have their travel documents sent to them in a speedy manner. The cost of this service is only $12.72 at the time of writing.

File Search - Applicants who have lost the document which they previously submitted as evidence of United States citizenship, can include a written request for a file search with their application. This fee is $150. If your document was a birth certificate, you may want to consider applying for a certified copy through the vital records office of the state or county in which you were born. It would certainly be a lot less expensive. A problem arises when you need to get your passport renewed quickly. Not every county or state offers expedited services. Those that do not can sometimes take several weeks to issue a certified copy. If you cannot wait this long, a file search may be the best solution.

Expedited Service - Routine processing takes 4-6 weeks. If you need to renew your passport more quickly, you can pay the $60 fee for expedited service. By doing this, you can get your travel document in up to 3 weeks if you submit the form by mail or as fast as the same day if you personally submit it at a regional agency.

Additional Expenses Related to Passport Renewals

Passport Photo - Only one picture is not required. Even so, you probably will not find a location that will make only one photo. For example, you will pay $7.99 at CVS for two pictures.

Postage and Handling - You are going to have to pay to mail your application, previously issued passport, photo and payment. The method you choose to do this will affect the amount you pay. The State Department recommends using a traceable delivery method. You can request signature or confirmation delivery. For fast delivery, you need to choose priority or express mail. Postage fees can run from a few dollars to upwards of $50, depending on where you live and the services you request.

Travel Expenses - Applicants who apply for expedited service at a regional processing center will have extra expenses. These might include transportation, parking, meals and, even, lodging. Of course, personal delivery of the application and supporting documents means you will not have any mail delivery fees.

Registered Expediter Services - Those who need to renew passports in less than two weeks but are unable to get to a regional agency can authorize a registered expediting service to submit the applications for them. Expediters charge a few for this service which ranges from approximately $79 to get the renewal in about 10 days to $299 to have the application processed the same day.

As you can see, there are many more fees and expenses other than the passport renewal application fee that you might need to pay in order to get your travel document renewed. It will cost you more if you wait until the last minute and require the assistance of a professional service to get expedited passport renewal. Apply early so that your total expenses do not go far beyond the basic US passport renewal fee.

Visit U.S. Passport Service Guide to download applications and get step-by-step instructions on how to renew a passport. Applicants with urgent travel plans can check out our guide to getting expedited passport renewals.

AppId is over the quota

If you love to drive then taking a long road trip should definitely be on your to do list. Curvy and challenging roads will allow you to push your car to its limits while you get to enjoy beautiful sights at the same time. A road trip is a much less expensive alternative to the traditional vacation; all you need is to fill up your tank with gasoline and off you go. Some road trips even have camping and hiking activities available along the way. Let's take a look at some of the most beautiful and scenic routes to travel in the state of MN.

One of the most famous and gorgeous roads in Minnesota is the Veterans Evergreen Memorial Drive which leads to the city of Duluth. Along the way you will find lots of attractions such as camping and lots of small rivers that are perfect for canoeing. You will get to enjoy the views of Banning State Park and Jay Cooke State Park.

Evergreen Memorial drive actually connects MN to Canada. The reason why this road is such a hit with locals is due to its spectacular scenic views. You'll get to enjoy the sights of gorgeous Lake Superior; the views are truly out of this world. You will drive around the lake for around 20 miles or so. Highway 61 passes through the cities of Lake City, Red Wing and Winona and St Paul.

The Great River Road is a great route to take if you are planning on taking a long road trip of at least five days. Not only is it a gorgeous road to explore but it's also rich with history; it was traveled both by French settlers hundreds of years ago and American Indians. Not only is driving this road a great way to test your car out on the road but you also get to appreciate the legacy of Minnesota's rich history. The most gorgeous areas are around the town of Stockholm which is around 60 miles away from St Paul.

Make sure that you do a check up on your car before you leave.. Also check the tire pressure and make sure all of your lights are in working order. Make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks and blankets and pillows if you are planning to take an overnight trip. A road trip is a great way to bond with your friends or family, take in some lovely views and drive!
